Tuesday’s supermoon was the biggest and brightest of the year. At 221,856 miles from Earth, it was the closest the moon will orbit to our planet this year. The lunar event was named the “pink supermoon,” not for its color, but because it coincides with wildflower blooms in the Northern United States and Canada.
