These days our homes are more integral in our lives than ever. They serve as spaces of work, play, and rest. If you’re getting a bit tired of looking at your own walls, here are some tips from interior designers on simple ways to spruce up your home.
- Open up your pantry. Glass fronted or open style cabinets are popular in home design right now. Consider placing your most decorative or cohesive set of dishware in one cabinet and using a screwdriver to remove its door (keep the door and screws on hand in case you want to reinstall). This can be a creative way to spice up your cooking area and might even inspire you to rearrange or clean out your pantry.
- Color coordinate. This can be done with any number of household collections to make your space feel more organized and visually appealing. Try color coordinating your books, clothes, dishes, or linens to make your home look more cohesive. It’s also a great way to systematically sort through and clear out items you don’t use or need anymore.
- Clean your walls. Walls, especially highly trafficked ones near staircases, baseboards, and in children’s bedrooms can be covered in dust, fingerprints, and scuffs which make them look dull. Grab a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and get to work scrubbing. Clean walls are a great way to give your home a fresh new feel if you’re not ready to commit to repainting.
- Bring the outside in. Houseplants purify your home’s air and boost your mood. If you already have a lot, consider rearranging them for a new atmosphere. Don’t stop with houseplants. Picked flowers bring immediate color and light to your space and even loose branches or pinecones found outside can be used for decoration.
- Carve out special spaces. Jumbling together work, recreation, homeschooling, and family time into the same space can feel chaotic. Some overlap is inevitable, but try to designate different spaces for different purposes. Allocate at least one space in your home that is purely for you to relax and rest in. Even if this is just a corner of a room or area of the backyard, make the space calming and comfortable and use it to recharge.
Small, simple changes around your home can make it feel rejuvenated and cure your case of cabin fever. Try making some of these adjustments and fall in love with your home all over again.
