Modern technology is allowing African countries to embrace a rising wave of informal employment in the shape of short-term, freelance work. In fact, flexible jobs have become so popular in many African countries that the gig economy could just be called “the economy.” For example, just 17 percent of Kenyan employment is formal, full-time work.
