Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

There are a few topics that are difficult to explain to children. When it comes to racism, Sesame Street is here to lend a helping hand.

On Saturday, June 6, 2020, the kids’ television show Sesame Street teamed up with CNN to broadcast a 60-minute special titled “Coming Together: Standing Up to Racism. A CNN/Sesame Street Town Hall for Kids and Families”.

The show talked to kids about racism, the nationwide BLM protests that took place, embracing diversity, and being more empathetic and understanding. Big Bird was joined by CNN commentator Van Jones and CNN anchor and national correspondent Erica Hill moderated the event. “Sesame Street” characters — including Elmo, Abby Cadabby, and Rosita — and other experts took to answering questions submitted by families.

The first CNN “Sesame Street” town hall took place in April, 2020, and addressed the coronavirus pandemic. This special tackled the hardship of many families that had to shelter at home and explained the dangers of COVID-19.
