The German state of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s northernmost and windiest state, announced this week that it plans to produce 100% of electricity from renewables before 2014 ends. Home to more than 200 alternative energy companies, Schleswig-Holstein is looking to produce 3X the energy it consumes from alternative sources, selling the extra 200% back to the rest of the German power grid, making an estimated profit of over $5 million annually.
