Apple is a huge consumer of wood virgin fiber, including the pulp and paper used in the packaging of all its products. Following up with its recent announcement about renewable energy investments in China, Apple declared yesterday that it is investing further in China to protect 1 million acres of responsibly managed working forests—this time through a partnership with environmental non-profit WWF. Apple has come a long way from being criticized as one of the worst sustainability offenders in the Silicon Valley, to gaining recognition as a leader in the field. Recruiting ex-EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson as its new VP of Environmental Initiatives a couple of years ago was obviously a smart move.
