Palm oil impacts a major part of your life—from the soap you use to the cookies you eat. The problem is that in many places ancient rainforests are cleared to make way for plantations to produce palm oil. Environmental organizations have been campaigning to end this deforestation. Now Indonesia, the country where about half of the world’s palm oil is produced, has announced that it will ban new oil palm and mining permits.
