People living with type-1 diabetes are constantly tracking and adjusting their blood sugar with insulin or food, but that could all change soon with a new invention developed by a professor at Boston University. Named the iLet, the invention is a bionic pancreas that automatically takes blood sugar readings every five minutes, and depending on blood-sugar levels, releases insulin to bring the sugar down or another hormone called glucagon to bring it back up, keeping blood sugar steady throughout the day. The device is currently undergoing trials and could be available as soon as 2018.
