French multinational food company Danone has acquired the health-focused brand WhiteWave, uniting under the name DanoneWave. This is special because Danone is listing the company as a public benefit corporation, becoming one of the largest in the world to date. Benefit corporations are unique because they publicly specify their intentions to pursue social objectives beyond only shareholder value. “#DanoneWave will treat people, purpose, and profit as coexisting priorities, all of which are vital to our success,” the new company said in one of its first tweets.
