In a groundbreaking study, scientists uncovered evidence that our bodies weigh themselves. Apparently, the cells in our bones can detect whether a particular section of bone is under increased mechanical stress caused by weight, signaling the need for new bone formation and remodeling. This is the first time researchers have discovered that we have an internal system that regulates fat mass, and while there’s still much more research to be done, this could lead to new treatments of obesity.
