President Trump has the country up in arms once again after declaring a national emergency to pay for an unneeded border wall, which will inevitably lead to a massive battle in court. Yes, Trump sure knows a thing or two about enflaming the American public, but what he doesn’t know is that he’s opened pandora’s box: just imagine how a Democratic president could wield the same emergency powers to tackle climate change. It wouldn’t immediately lead to the complete decarbonization of the US, but it could start to unwind a system that keeps churning carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a dangerous rate.
