Today’s Solutions: December 16, 2025

City dwellers tend to make up the great proportion of electric car buyers, but if the range of EVs were to improve, those of us living in more rural areas would be more tempted to buy one. The good news is a Swiss startup by the name of Innolith says it has developed new high-density lithium-ion batteries capable of powering an electric car for more than 600 miles on a single charge. That’s far greater than the current lithium-ion batteries on the market today, with Tesla’s batteries supporting a range of 330 miles. For Innolith, boosting the range of their batteries was a matter of replacing the organic (and highly flammable) solvent within the batteries with an inorganic substance, a salt-like substance that’s more stable and less flammable. While the development of this new battery is certainly exciting news, we’ll likely have to wait between three and five years before the battery hits the market.
