The environmentally conscious outdoor retailer Patagonia has long been praised for its company ethos, which promotes fair labor practices and environmental responsibility across its entire chain. Now the company has decided to pump the brakes on its popular corporate branding program and no longer produce co-branded garments for corporations that don’t share the same climate-conscious ethos. That means that from now on Patagonia won’t co-brand with oil, drilling, mining, dam construction, or any other companies that they view to be ecologically damaging. The retailer’s move matches with other steps it has taken as part of its heightened corporate activism. Last November, Patagonia received $10 million as a result of what it called an “irresponsible tax cut” by President Trump; the company promptly donated the windfall to environmental charities.
