California is currently in the thralls of a three-year drought that is the worst in the state’s history. The crisis leads to an increased focus on water recycling in southern California. The municipality is already home to the largest water recycling plant in the world that turns water sourced from dishwashers, showers, washing machines and toilets into drinking water. The capacity of the plant will increase from 70 million gallons a day to 100 million gallons a day, which would serve about a third of Orange County.
