There is already a market for such a thing, but as of now, only renewable-energy producers who are officially certified as “green” can sell their energy in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) to companies like Apple and Google, who buy them to offset their own use of “dirty” energy. By using blockchain technology, the system that supports cryptocurrencies, we can democratize green energy and allow homeowners to have the same right to sell their green electricity to companies.
