The European Chemicals Agency has announced a ban on the use of two chemicals widely found in cosmetics intended to be washed off after use. Although you’ve probably never heard of the chemicals cyclomethicone (D4) and cyclopentasiloxane (D5), they will be banned from use in cosmetics as of 2020 because they have been found to be hazardous for aquatic life once the cosmetics they’re in are washed off. While we may not understand all the chemicals that go into the products we buy, it is assuring to know that regulators are becoming more aware of products with chemicals that may be harmful for humans and the environment.
