Taking inspiration from the Dutch village of de Hogewey, developers in Canada are constructing an assisted living complex designed to help people with dementia live independently while also keeping them safe. The idea is that by providing plenty of facilities and activities such as gardening and art, the village can help residents live a meaningful life that helps preserve their mental health. The village has acres of natural space for residents to enjoy, and although there are no fences, residents will wear buttons that alert carers if they wander to far off.
