In the United Kingdom, Volvo has sold over 50,000 of its XC90 model since it first came out in 2002, and not a single person has been killed while driving it, or as a passenger. The main reason for the Volvo’s success is that it was an early leader in the use of camera and radar systems to warn drivers about hazards on the road. On top of that, the Volvo also utilizes Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), which brings cars to a halt automatically if it gets too close to another vehicle. Few manufacturers offer AEB as a standard fit on all their vehicles, but that may soon change as news of Volvo’s safety success spreads.
