Approximately 3.3 million pounds of gum reside on the streets of Amsterdam each year. To put a dent in that number, a trio of organizations have teamed up to turn chewed gum into sustainable shoes. The team has created a new type of rubber called Gum-Tec by breaking down the synthetic rubber properties in chewing gum. Approximately 2.2 pounds of ABC gums is used for every four pairs of sneakers, which will help to get rid of the mother of all annoyances—getting gum stuck to the bottom of your sneakers.
