Single-use plastics are finally getting the negative attention they deserve, and it’s leading companies and governments to take action. To coincide with World Environment Day, the government of India announced it will be banning single-use plastics from all of its 22 states by 2022. That’s a move that will affect 1.3 billion people. Meanwhile IKEA, the world’s largest furniture retailer, is removing all single-use plastics from its product range by 2020. The Swedish giant also pledged to phase all virgin plastic from its homeware collections—a move that could set a precedent across the industry.
