Global warming has been accepted by almost every government and political party in the world—except for the Republican party in the U.S. So, it’s major news that a Republican member of the House of Representatives has introduced legislation to implement a carbon tax. Starting in 2020, the tax would establish a fee of $24 a ton on carbon dioxide emissions, which are the main drivers of human-caused climate change. The law is unlikely to pass. But it’s a hopeful beginning.
