Using recycled and repurposed materials to build new things is a fantastic way to take some pressure off the environment as it decreases landfill waste, reduces the need for raw materials, and saves the energy that comes with having to dismantle and re-manufacture products. But on top of that, breathing new life into old things can have an incredibly aesthetic effect. A great testimony of that is this new house in Fernie, BC, which used various recycled items throughout its construction: from old boards and rusty sidings as its primary cladding material to an old fridge door as a bathroom entrance. And to make it even more sustainable, the owner used cross-laminated timber that gives the house a completely nature-dominated feel.
