How do beekeepers make most of their money? While honey may seem like the obvious answer, the real answer is that beekeepers make most of their money from pollination services where they provide hives to farmers.

Just look to California where nearly 80 percent of the world’s almonds are grown. Without bees moving pollen from blossom to blossom, almost every one of those almonds wouldn’t be possible. Lots of other crops depend on the work of bees, too, including plums, cherries, and apples. With so many crops relying on these buzzing pollinators, the beekeeping industry is big business. But it does come with many major challenges as bees face a myriad of threats in this day and age.
