Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

The popular herbicide Roundup is used globally by people trying to rid their gardens of weeds, and that’s a problem. Scientists have continued to find evidence that proves that Roundup, which was originally created by GMO giant Monsanto, is linked to cancer.

The good news is government institutions are starting to pushback against Roundup. In March, a federal jury in San Francisco ordered Monsanto to pay $80 million to a California man with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, with another 11,000 similar cases still pending at the federal or state level. This tells us that the courts are starting to listen to the science that links Roundup to cancer.

Meanwhile, in Austria, the government is attempting an outright ban of the weedkiller. The Austrian bill faces little opposition in the parliament’s upper house and is likely to be signed by President Alexander Van der Bellen soon. If it passes, Austria will become the first European Union country to ban the substance.
