As a massive metropolis with more than five million residents, it’s no surprise that the Chilean capital of Santiago is facing some serious problems of air pollution. But that may soon change as the country’s government has recently opened what is billed as the first electric bus corridor in Latin America.

Replacing one of the main routes in the city’s transport network, the electric bus corridor will operate with 285 new all-electric buses, connecting nine neighborhoods through Santiago’s center and offering access to some 660,000 people.

According to the supplier, the new zero-emissions vehicles are 70 percent cheaper to operate than the capital city’s current diesel-powered buses. Their onboard batteries offer around 250km of range and can be fully charged in five hours. Other features include onboard WiFi, low flooring, and USB chargers.
