A recent $500 million investment from Denmark’s Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) will begin one of Canada’s most ambitious renewable energy projects to date. With the investment, the province of Alberta will start building 1.5 million solar panels along the southern borders of Canada near Vulcan County.
The project will seek to provide more clean energy in Alberta, Canada’s fourth-largest province with a population of around 4 million people. Once finalized in 2021, the project will be Canada’s biggest solar farm with an ability to generate 800 million kWh per year. For a country that was slow to adopt clean energy, this is a big step in the right direction.
The energy output will be enough to power around 100,000 homes in the province. Apart from the ecological benefits, the solar farm will also generate around 500 new jobs during construction.
