Today’s Solutions: December 17, 2025

We recently wrote an article about why you should invest in all-electric gardening equipment. Recognizing the environmental and public health benefits of this transition, California has signed a bill into law that will ban the sale of new gas-powered leaf-blowers, lawnmowers, power washers, and other small off-road engines as early as 2024.

Using a gas-powered leaf blower for 30 minutes creates the same hydrocarbon emissions as driving 7,700 miles at a speed of thirty miles per hour. They also contribute to noise pollution and create health issues for those with extensive exposure to their exhaust. Not to mention that after the initial investment, electric tools save users an average of $200 due to lower maintenance and lack of fuel cost.

Once implemented, the law will not only end new gas-powered purchase options, but also offer customers rebates to purchase electric-powered replacements. Supporters of the bill have raised concerns over the timeline of the law which puts the ban at 2024 or “as soon as the state board determines is feasible, whichever is later.” Proponents also argue that the transition should be considered feasible by 2024 as half of California residents have already transitioned to cleaner equipment.
