Farming is not exactly seen as a frontier of innovation. As more and more people around the world move away from the rural areas to live in cities, it’s mainly older people who stay behind at the farms. That’s a worrisome development as a growing world population needs more food every day. But a new trend is emerging. Tech entrepreneurs are starting innovative urban farming projects. High-tech urban farms are popping up in old warehouses in the Netherlands, in semi conductor factories in Japan and on the roofs of commercial buildings in Brooklyn. Such high-tech vegetable gardens may very well point to the future of farming.
