President Trump wants to spend billions to build a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. Here’s a much better plan for that border that will cost far less money and will produce multiple benefits for both countries. Half of the border is formed by the Rio Grande. That river is in bad shape; the water level is decreasing because of irrigation and the remaining water is polluted with chemicals and sewage. Restoring the Rio Grande can help mitigate air and water pollution, restore soils and habitats and regenerate plant, animal and human communities while providing new income-generating opportunities. Restoring the river habitat would improve border security as well by fostering higher and more constant water flow.
What about a park and a healthy river instead of a wall for the US-Mexico border?
