Politicians keep saying that refugees are the problem. They (want to) steal jobs from locals and they pose an economic burden on the host nation. Scholars keep showing the opposite, as in this new book. The reality is that countries around the world are missing out on the opportunity to welcome refugees as a potential source of knowledge, skill, and economic development. One example: Uganda took in many refugees from Rwanda. Research shows that one in five Rwandans now own a business that employs at least one person. And 40 percent of these employees are Ugandans.
