The best way to prevent knee arthritis is through exercise, particularly walking. According to a recent study published in Arthritis Care and Research, the commonly cited 10,000 steps per day suggested to prevent arthritis is excessive, and 6,000 steps a day will do. While walking the extra 4,000 steps won’t do any harm, if your end goal is arthritis prevention you can stop at 6,000 steps, though it is worth noting that you reduce the risk of mobility loss between 16–18% for every extra 1,000 steps you take. | Read more about the study on Npr.org
