College students and recent graduates in India are increasingly participating in online courses to enhance their knowledge. Indian enrollments currently already account for about 8 percent of worldwide activity in Coursera and 12 percent in edX, the two leading platforms for massive open online courses (MOOCs). Only the United States’ share is clearly higher. The free online courses provide new possibilities for Indian students to stand out from the crowd and find better jobs, all over the world. According to MIT Technology Review, the MOOCs are also shaking up Indian education.
