Bitcoin has been hailed for its potential to fix the modern world of finance. As a currency separate from a central government, bitcoin provides a much cheaper and simpler way of moving money from place to place, and with the blockchain technology that backs it, there is no need for interest, which eliminates debt. The cryptocurrency has been in use by a handful of companies for the last few years and now in 2016, bitcoin is poised for a breakthrough into the mainstream. The use of the cryptocurrency as a payment is up significantly as of late. Several big names in finance including Capital One, Visa and even Nasdaq made major investments into the bitcoin startup Chain to advance their use of the digital currency and there is even a bitcoin debit card that can be used anywhere that accepts a VISA card. All is in place for bitcoin to change the world this new year.
