In the future, Google wants you to ditch the plug-in and charge your electric self-driving car. According to Google’s parent company Alphabet, the self-driving cars would be able to juice up their batteries simply by rolling over a special charging transmitter in the ground, similar to a manhole cover. The technology uses resonant magnetic induction to basically beam power into the underside of a car. In theory, the system of chargers embedded in the pavement would allow the car to recharge themselves as they travel. Google is testing the technology further at its headquarters and expects to further develop wireless-charging technology.
