So connecting everyone to the internet would lead to a substantial growth impulse for the world economy. According to a new report getting the 4 billion people—who are not yet connected—online would over 5 years add $6.7tn to the global economy and lift 500 million out of poverty. And it’s not even a hard job. More than nine-tenths of the world’s population live in places where the infrastructure exists to get them online. The main challenge is money.
