California is closing its last nuclear power plant in 2025. The historic deal to replace the 31-year old Diablo Canyon nuclear plant with renewable energy could be a model for the rest of the country. The threat of global warming has been giving the nuclear power industry new prominence in recent years. However, current renewable energy trends show that the world can transition straight from fossil fuels to clean, safe renewable energy. California sets an important example that may have a big impact on the U.S. transition to clean energy.
