Tesla has decided to temporarily unlock the full battery capacity of all Model S and Model X cars in Florida to support local residents dealing with the impact of Hurricane Irma. Tesla said that by doing this, drivers had an extra range of about 30 to 40 miles in order to ensure a safe evacuation from the path of the storm. In one case, unlocking the battery capacity helped an owner in a mandatory evacuation area optimize his escape route and get out in a timely fashion.
