“Flexible plastics” such as bags of all shapes, sizes, and colors are often deemed as non-commercially valuable as they barely have any weight and are hard to process—meaning they hardly get recycled. Slowly but surely, however, innovators are coming up with brilliant ways to make the most out of “valueless” plastic bags. Just look at the Gomi Speaker, a portable speaker that is not only fully-functional, but also beautiful. Each speaker is made of 100 plastic bags that are melted and squished together to create a high-tech, artisan product, instead of ending up in oceans or landfills. Most notably, the speakers looked as if they’re made out of colorful marble, making them more stylish than most speakers on the market. The Gomi speaker is the latest in a new wave of recycled plastic products that are actually able to compete with products made of virgin plastic—both in performance and in aesthetics.
