If you’re trying to lose weight, there’s no need to spend lavishly on the trendy superfoods you often see online. Sure, buying a coconut matcha latte is a nice healthy treat, but do you need it? No, not really. Should you be looking to lose weight without spending too much dough, the following six tips will help you do just that. First, reduce food waste. The scraps of food you have after cooking a meal, such as half an avocado or a boiled egg, can be repurposed into different meals if you get creative. Next tip: skip organic (sometimes). Eating more fruits and vegetables—whether they’re organic or not—will help you eat more fiber and get more vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. If organic food is just too expensive, it’s OK to buy non-organic. Third, buy frozen and canned produce. Sure, it may sound basic, but there are some really inventive frozen products on the cheap these days, from cauliflower rice to carrot spirals, that are low-calorie. Number four: try meal delivery services like Blue Apron. They might be expensive, but they provide small amounts of high-quality ingredients so that you don’t need to go the store yourself—which can save time and money in terms of reducing food waste. The fifth tip is to add beans to your meals. While beans aren’t the sexiest of foods, they are some of the cheapest finds in the grocery store that are also healthy. And last but not least, just slow down when you eat. When you scarf your food, you may naturally overeat. Slow down and you’ll be just as satisfied on less.
