With an abundance of meat alternatives available on the market these days, it can be quite easy to remove meat from your diet. Fish, on the other hand, has very little alternatives. Whole Foods started selling faux-tuna recently, but that’s about it when it comes to seafood substitutes. Or at least, scientifically-produced seafood substitutes.

Apparently, there is a little-known leaf that grows along the northern coasts of Scotland, Canada and Scandinavia that tastes unmistakably like an oyster—metallic, oceany and fresh. No wonder then that the name of this leaf is the oyster leaf. According to Irish chef Darina Allen, eating oyster leaves with fennel flowers can be a great option for vegetarians who still crave the taste of the sea.
