Apart from perceived range anxiety, another factor influencing the decision of many people to avoid buying an electric car is the cost barrier.

Now, French car manufacturer Renault has officially confirmed that in the next two years it plans to introduce the cheapest electric car in Europe under its Romanian brand Dacia, which is known for its affordable SUV model.

With a price tag as low as $12,000, the new car won’t be big on frills or range when it goes on sale, but it may be just the perfect bargain for urban drivers who can’t afford an electric car, while also making an ideal option for car-sharing services in cities. Considering that most new electric cars on the market cost at least $30,000, this is actually a pretty big deal.
