Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

Like many other nations, Hong Kong advised its citizens from early in the COVID-19 crisis to wear face masks when they need to go out in public, as a means of ensuring safety for both themselves and those around them. But due to the current shortage and high prices of these PPEs, many disadvantaged groups in the country can’t afford them.

With this in mind, renowned art collector Adrian Cheng has announced plans to distribute millions of surgical face masks free of charge during the coronavirus pandemic, using 35 specially built vending machines placed in various locations around Hong Kong.

According to Cheng, over the next few weeks, 35 “Mask To Go” dispensers will be installed across 18 districts in Hong Kong. And to avoid queuing, the project team will issue pre-registered “smart redemption cards”, which the cardholders can use to redeem a free pack of 5 medical face masks at one of the designated centers every week.

It’s amazing to see the philanthropic potential of individuals that this pandemic has brought to the surface.
