Today’s Solutions: April 20, 2024

As we wrap up the school year, many parents are breathing a sigh of relief to have a break from the virtual classroom. Many are also experiencing a surge of gratitude for teachers who manage not only their child but 20 others as well every day. If you’re looking to thank your child’s teacher from afar, here are some ideas on ways to express your gratitude.

  1. Make a video card. Record a message from you and your child to thank your teacher. Ask your child what they appreciate about their teacher and what they are looking forward to the next school year.
  2. A virtual gift card. You don’t even have to leave the house to get a gift card these days. If you can’t send your child to school with one for their teacher, send one via email! Bonus points if you support local businesses by making it to a local restaurant or shop.
  3. Flowers. Ask your local florist if they are comfortable with deliveries and give your child’s teacher the gift of floral decor for their home.
  4. A streaming service. While we’re all spending a bit more time at home, we would all appreciate more opportunities to watch new movies and shows. Netflix and Hulu both make it easy to buy a gift card worth one (or more!) months of subscription.
  5. A short story or poem. Have your child write a letter, story, or poem about why they are grateful for their teacher and record it or mail it to them.
  6. Pool resources together. Reach out to other parents and see if you can put something together all together. Be mindful that many may not have disposable financial resources at the moment, but a collective thank you video compilation is easy to put together while socially distanced.

As the old saying goes, it’s the thought that counts. If you can’t afford a gift, a homemade token of gratitude is just as special and thoughtful.
