Sarah Fuller is the starting goalkeeper for the Vanderbilt women’s soccer team, but last Sunday she took on a different athletic role for the school as she became the first woman to play in a Power 5 Conference college football game.

Fuller took the field as the team’s kicker after coach Derek Mason recruited her to try out for the squad. Although Vanderbilt lost the game to the University of Missouri, Fuller said, “I just want to tell all the girls out there that you can do anything you set your mind to.”

The Power 5 Conference includes the five biggest football athletic conferences in the US: The SEC, Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, and Pac-12 Conference.

It has been a busy week for Fuller who just last weekend helped lead her team to the SEC women’s soccer tournament title. Fuller received congratulations on her athletic milestone from many female sports legends including tennis star Billie Jean King and Jen Walter, the NFL’s first female coach.
