Soon, shoppers in the US at Ikea will be able to buy more than just cute household furniture and accessories. Ikea announced an exciting new product in a press statement: solar panels.

The Swedish home and living giant partnered with SunPower, a California-based company that sells and installs solar power, to introduce this special product line. Members of Ikea’s loyalty program will be able to purchase home solar kits such as “Home Solar.” This kit allows loyalty program members to generate and even store their own power.

According to Javier Quiñones, CEO and Chief of Sustainability Officer of Ikea US, the decision to sell solar panels is part of the company’s great mission of helping people live more sustainable lives.

“At Ikea, we’re passionate about helping our customers live a more sustainable life at home. We’re proud to collaborate with SunPower to bring this service to the US and enable our customers to make individual choices aimed at reducing their overall climate footprint,” Quiñones says.

Ikea has shown time and time again its commitment to an environmentally conscious business model. Check out other initiatives Ikea has launched (like their buy back and resell program, and their pledge to stop using plastic packaging) to make the world a better, greener place.
