The wondrous fjords of Norway have become so popular over the years that hundreds of thousands of tourists are passing through them on cruise ships each year. While this is good for Norway’s tourism industry, it’s terrible for the environment as the passing of these cruise ships lead to spikes in local air pollution. In an effort to protect them, the Norwegian Parliament has voted to make the fjords the world’s first zero-emission zones at sea as of 2026, meaning that only electric ships will be able to cruise within the fjords.
