Today’s Solutions: April 28, 2024

We’ve previously brought indoor hobbies that are great for your wellbeing such as puzzling and knitting to our readers attention. So this time we thought we would provide you with some motivation to get you going on another great activity to enrich your free time with, reading.

From Bill Gates to Elon Musk, many of the world’s most powerful people say they love to read. And there’s a good reason for that: reading has been shown to improve your conversation skills, strengthen your worldview, and boost your self-discipline. It’s also a fantastic way to challenge your imagination, and inspire you to look into different fields of interest.

If you want to add more reading to your daily activity but don’t know how to do it, here are some tips to help you along the way.

Read because you want to

Don’t make it a mandatory activity that you force upon yourself. Get a book on something that interests you and let the activity of reading become something you feel naturally inclined to do.

Find a reading format that works for you

Many people swear by reading physical books, but if you’re often on the go, it doesn’t hurt to read from a device—or use an audiobook.

Don’t set intimidating goals

Telling yourself to read 50 books a year only to feel bad about not reaching that goal does you no good. Start small and simply try to read a few pages every day. From there, you can set bigger goals.

Try the “Rule of 50”.

Basically, if you get 50 pages into a book and it doesn’t “spark joy”, give it up and find something more enticing.
