Last week we wrote about the weekly Youth Strikes for Climate movement in which teens across the world are ditching class every Friday to march on the streets in order to urge climate action. Although we think it’s brilliant that younger generations are doing all they can to motivate politicians to act on climate change, the movement has attracted some criticism for the movement’s class-skipping tendency. For that reason, the movement has published a powerful letter to clarify their mission. The letter says: “We are the voiceless future of humanity … We will not accept living in fear and devastation. We have the right to live our dreams and hopes.” Being teenagers, the members of this movement don’t have the democratic right to vote, but they do have one democratic right they are choosing to exercise: the right to demonstrate. And on March 15, more than 500 youth protests will take place across 51 countries, making it the biggest strike day so far.
