Trader Joe’s has always been top of the league when it comes to supermarkets, providing only organic, non-GMO produce to its customers. On top of that, the supermarket stopped offering single-use plastic carryout bags nationwide and is replacing styrofoam meat trays with compostable options. Now in response to a petition launched by Greenpeace and signed by nearly 100,000 people, Trader Joe’s announced it will start phasing out all single-use plastic packaging from its stores. Considering that no supermarket in America has taken such measures to remove plastic from their stores, hopefully, Trader Joe’s might provide the blueprint for supermarkets trying to replace single-use plastics with better alternatives.
