The Indian state of Madhya Pradesh was once known as the “Tiger state”, but sadly it has lost its reputation over the years due to dwindling numbers of the big cat. The main problem is that poaching is still rampant in the region, and Tigers haven’t been birthing new cubs.

Now, for the first time in years, forest staff in Madhya Pradesh have spotted new litters of tiger cubs. In fact, as many as 11 tiger cubs have been sighted in the past week, sparking celebrations amongst the forest staff who safeguard the tiger sanctuaries of Madhya Pradesh. In the Nauradehi sanctuary where one of the litters was found, the newborn cubs are considered so precious that armed policemen have been posted nearby to protect them. Hopefully, these new tiger cubs are a symbol of better times to come for the “Tiger state”.
